The Central government has appointed Justice Augustine George Masih as the Chief Justice (CJ) of Rajasthan High Court.

The website of Law Ministry’s Department of Justice website has published a notification to this effect.

As per the records, Justice Masih is currently the senior most puisne judge of the Punjab & Haryana High Court and was appointed judge of that Court on July 10, 2008.

It was after the elevation of earlier Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal from the Rajasthan High Court to the Supreme Court that the vacancy arose in the Court.

The recommendation for the elevation of Justice Masih as the CJ of Rajasthan High Court was done by the Supreme Court Collegium headed by CJI DY Chandrachud on April 19.

The Collegium had reasoned that the Punjab and Haryana High Court, presently has no representation among the Chief Justices of the High Courts.

Justice Augustine George Masih was born on March 12, 1963 at Ropar, Punjab,. He completed his studies from Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh and later from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.

He did his law from Aligarh Muslim University. As an advocate, he appeared before courts in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.
