Speaking of her educational qualification, Shubhra Saxena started studying at DAV School in Jharkhand (Ranchi Zone). Later, she went to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and studied software engineering in 2002. Her educational background and school experiences ignited her competitive spirit and motivated her to push forward.

Although her career in software engineering was bright and promising, she was drawn towards public service. Four years later, she chose to pursue a career in civil services to work on social issues such as serving rural communities and addressing the lack of basic amenities. She worked as a senior software engineer and vice chairman of the Agra Development Authority. She even served as a district collector and magistrate in districts Raebareli, Hardoi, Shahjahanpur, Bulandshahr Rampur, Amroha, and Shravasti. Furthermore, she served as a Special Secretary-Medical Education Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh.

Shubhra Saxena’s UPSC journey is a testament to dedication and determination. She qualified the UPSC CSE 2008 examination by securing the top rank in her second attempt. As per the News18 Hindi report, her study program initially averaged eight hours a day, which increased to 10-12 hours during the exam period. The report further stated that after four years, she left her job at a multinational corporation, Computer Science Corporation (CSC), to fully dedicate herself to preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Exam. Currently, Shubhra is serving as the Director at the Election Commission of India.
