[Bike Taxi Ban] Supreme Court reinstates ban on Uber bike, Rapido in Delhi

Supreme Court: In a challenge against the Delhi High Court orders restricting any coercive action against the bike-taxi aggregators Uber and Rapido against the Delhi government’s ban, the Vacation Bench of Aniruddha Bose and Rajesh Bindal, JJ. put a stay on the Delhi High Court’s decision while reinstating the ban on bike-taxi in Delhi.

Background of Bike Taxi Ban in Delhi​


Earlier this year, the Delhi Government through a public notice notified the use of two-wheelers for commercial purposes to be in violation of the , which could attract fine of Rs 5,000 and repetition could weigh Rs 10,000 on their pockets, along with imprisonment.

When the saiwas challenged before the Delhi High Court, they directed the Delhi government not to take any coercive action against the bike-taxi aggregators and to let them operate until further policy guidelines governing grant of license to such aggregators are notified.

Bike-Taxi ban before Supreme Court​


The Delhi High Court stay on the government order was challenged by Aam Aadmi Party led Delhi government before the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court on Monday (12-6-2023) revived the government order through which Rapido, Uber bike were banned in Delhi.

As per reports, the government of NCT of Delhi also assured the Court that it will frame guidelines and licensing policy for bike aggregators by 31-7-2023 for regulating their operations.
