The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a prize money of Rs 125 crore for the Indian cricket team that won the ICC T20 World Cup . Board Secretary Jay Shah made this announcement after India’s historic victory at Kensington Oval . Mr Shah said in a social media post that the Indian team displayed extraordinary talent, skill and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. He congratulated all the players, coaches and support staff on this extraordinary achievement. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, Team India has created history by winning all the matches of the tournament and the World Cup.

2 Lt Gen NS Rajasubramani, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM assumes charge as Vice Chief of the Army Staff​

Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani took over as the Vice Chief of Army Staff . He was serving as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Lucknow-based Central Command. Mr Subramani was commissioned into the Garhwal Rifles in December 1985. He is a graduate of the prestigious National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy. He is an alumnus of the Joint Services Command Staff College, Bracknell (UK) and the National Defence College, New Delhi.

3 Bhajanlal Sharma launched the Chief Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi in Tonk​

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma launched the state government’s Mukhyamantri Kisan Samman Nidhi at a function held at Krishi Upaj Mandi in Tonk on 30 June 2024. The Chief Minister released Rs 650 crore as the first installment to about 65 lakh farmers of the state. The eligible farmers of the state will get the benefits under the state scheme as well as the payment of Rs 6000 per year by the central government under the PM-Kisan scheme . Under this scheme, there is an income support scheme launched by the state government to boost the income of eligible farmers of the state. Under the Mukhyamantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, eligible farmers will get Rs 2000 per year. They will get the money in three installments – Rs 1000, Rs 500 and Rs 500. The first installment was transferred directly by the Chief Minister in Tonk on 30 June 2024. The second and third installments will be received along with the PM-Kisan scheme. The amount will be transferred directly to the bank account of eligible farmers. About 65 lakh farmers of the state are eligible for the Mukhyamantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

4 Hungary assumes presidency of the EU Council for the next six months​

Hungary has assumed the Presidency of the EU Council for the next six months with a focus on enhancing the EU ‘s competitiveness. Hungary’s EU Affairs Minister János Bocca outlined seven top priorities during Hungary’s Presidency. These priorities include enhancing the EU’s competitiveness, strengthening European defence policy, enlargement of the EU and controlling illegal migration. These also include shaping the future of cohesion policy, implementing a farmer-focused EU agricultural policy and tackling the EU’s demographic challenges. Mr Bocca said these priorities reflect the will of European voters. These included a clear political message in the recent European Parliamentary elections that Europe needs change. Mr Bocca particularly mentioned the EU’s competitiveness and security and defence policy. He said Hungary’s main objective in assuming the EU Presidency is to make Europe great again.

5 Ravi Agarwal becomes the new chairman of CBDT​

On June 30, the central government appointed 1988 batch IRS officer Ravi Agarwal as the new chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) . He will replace Nitin Gupta , whose term ended on June 30. Ravi was to retire in September this year, but now he will continue in his post till June 30 next year. CBDT is the highest policy maker of the Income Tax Department. CBDT can have six members besides a chairman. Other serving members in the board are Pragya Sahay Saxena, H.B.S. Gill, Praveen Kumar Sanjay Kumar and Sanjay Kumar Verma. Nitin Gupta was appointed as the chairman of CBDT in June 2022.

6 Challa Srinivasulu Setty will become the new chairman of SBI​

The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) has recommended Challa Srinivasulu Setty as the next chairman of State Bank of India (SBI ). The FSIB, which comes under the central government, said on Saturday, June 29, that keeping in view the existing parameters and experience, the bureau recommends Challa Srinivasulu Setty for the chairman of SBI. He currently handles the International Banking, Global Markets and Technology Department. The current chairman of the bank, Dinesh Khara, is retiring on August 28 after turning 63.

7 3 new criminal laws were implemented​

3 new criminal laws have come into force from July 1. On December 21, 2023, the Parliament of India passed three new criminal laws to replace the existing criminal laws. It was approved by President Draupadi Murmu on 25 December 2023. Now these laws have been implemented across the country from July 1, 2024. In the BNS law, 22 provisions of the IPC have been repealed and 175 have been amended. Along with this, 8 new sections have been added to the law. There are a total of 356 sections in the Indian Justice Code, 2023. At the same time, the Indian Civil Defense Code 2023 has now been implemented in place of the CrPC made in 1898. Through the Indian Civil Defense Code, 9 provisions of CrPC have been repealed, 160 provisions have been changed and 9 new provisions have been made. The Indian Civil Defense Code now has a total of 533 sections. Apart from this, the Indian Evidence Code 2023 has now been implemented in place of the Indian Evidence Code made in 1872. The Indian Evidence Act 2023 has repealed 5 provisions of the existing Indian Evidence Code. A new provision has also been included along with changes in 23 provisions. Now there are a total of 170 sections in the law.

8 India participated in UN meeting on Afghanistan​

A meeting of the United Nations (UN) was held on Afghanistan on Sunday, June 30 in Doha , the capital of Qatar . 25 countries including India participated in it . This is the first time that Taliban leaders were present during the discussion on Afghanistan. Earlier, they have been boycotting every UN meeting in which Afghanistan was discussed. However, the UN had made it clear that the purpose of this meeting is not to recognize the Taliban. Despite this, many human rights organizations criticized the meeting and raised questions. These organizations demand that as long as the Taliban continues to violate the rights of women, neither should they be talked to nor should they be recognized. Foreign Ministry official JP Singh attended the UN meeting on Afghanistan on behalf of India. However, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar was also in Doha at this time but he did not go to the meeting. JP Singh went to Kabul in March before the UN meeting and met Taliban officials there. India is not yet ready to recognize Afghanistan. However, it is maintaining its influence by providing humanitarian aid there.

9 India finished first in the Under-23 Asian Wrestling Championship​

India finished first in the Asian Wrestling Championship for wrestlers under 23 years of age . India’s young wrestlers won a total of eight medals including four gold, two silver and two bronze in freestyle wrestling in Amman, Jordan . Abhimanyu won gold medal in 70 kg weight category, Jonty Kumar in 92 kg weight category, Sahil Jaglan in 97 kg weight category and Anirudh Kumar in 125 kg weight category. Rohit won silver medal in 65 kg and Jaideep in 74 kg category. Shubham won bronze medal in 57 kg and Amit in 79 kg category. This is India’s best performance so far in the prestigious Asian Wrestling Championship. Kazakhstan finished second and Kyrgyzstan third.

10 India has prepared a checklist of all its fauna: Bhupendra Yadav​

According to Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav , India has become the first country in the world to prepare a checklist of its entire faunal population — 104,561 species. The move makes India a global leader in biodiversity documentation and conservation . The minister gave this information at a function organised in Kolkata to celebrate the 109th anniversary of the Zoological Survey of India on 30 June 2024 in Kolkata, West Bengal . He also formally launched the Fauna of India Checklist Portal maintained by the Zoological Survey of India. It contains checklists of the entire known fauna of India — 104,561 faunal species. The minister also inaugurated the 2nd Faunal Taxonomy Summit-2024 organised by the Zoological Survey of India in Kolkata. The inauguration of the Fauna of India Checklist Portal is being seen as an important step in biodiversity documentation in India. The portal contains 121 checklists of all known taxa covering 36 phyla. The checklist includes all endemic (found in a particular area), threatened and scheduled species.

11 Former world chess champion V Anand won Lyon Masters for the 10th time​

Former world chess champion Viswanathan Anand of India has won the Leon Master chess tournament for the 10th time . He won the 2024 Leon Masters title by defeating Jaime Santos Latasa of Spain 3-1 in the final played in Leon, Spain on June 30 , 2024. Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand has previously won the Leon Masters in 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2016 and 2024. The Leon Masters chess tournament is held in the city of Leon, Spain. Only four players participate in the tournament.

India celebrates National Doctors Day every year on July 1 to honor the legacy of renowned physician, freedom fighter and former Chief Minister of West Bengal , Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy . Dr. Roy was born on July 1, 1882 and interestingly, he also died on the same day in 1962. The theme of National Doctors Day 2024 in India is ” Healing Hands, Caring Hearts.
