B.R. Ambedkar Bihar University Gears Up for Eastern Zone Women’s Basketball Tournament!

Muzaffarpur: After a hiatus of nearly two decades, B.R. Ambedkar Bihar University, Muzaffarpur, is set to host the prestigious Eastern Zone Inter-University Women’s Basketball Competition. The five-day event, commencing on December 26th and concluding on December 30th, will witness the participation of 22 universities from across the eastern region of India. The competition will take place at the newly constructed synthetic basketball court within the Lalit Narayan Mishra College of Business Management, marking a significant milestone as the first such facility in North Bihar.
“It is a momentous occasion for our university,” declared Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dinesh Chandra Rai. VC Prof. Rai stated that after a significant gap, we are once again privileged to welcome talented athletes from across the eastern region to compete on our grounds. This tournament serves as a testament to our commitment to building a vibrant sporting culture within our institution and the region.
The inaugural ceremony, scheduled for December 26th at 1:00 PM, will be presided over by Prof. Dinesh Chandra Rai, Vice Chancellor of BRA Bihar University. Hon’ble Minister for Industry and Tourism, Mr. Nitish Mishra, will grace the occasion as the chief guest. Former Indian women’s basketball captain, Mrs. Divya Singh, will be present as a special guest to inspire the young athletes.
The closing ceremony and prize distribution will be held on December 30th, with the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Governor of Bihar, Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, as the Chief Guest. Sports Minister, Shri Surendra Mehta, Industry and Tourism Minister, Shri Nitish Mishra, and Director General of the Bihar State Sports Authority, Shri Ravindran Shankaran, will also attend the event.
Competition Format:
The participating universities have been divided into four pools:
* Pool A: Calcutta University, Ramadevi Women’s University, Atal Bihari Vajpayee University, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya University
* Pool B: Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Hemchandra Yadav University, Patna University, Saint Gahira Guru University, Shaheed Nand Kumar Patel University, Vardhman University
* Pool C: Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth University, Vishwa Bharati University, Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Technical University, Vinoba Bhave University, Jadhavpur University, Utkal University
* Pool D: Banaras Hindu University, Shaheed Mahendra Karma University, Rebansh University, Ranchi University, BRA Bihar University
The opening match will commence on December 26th at 10:00 AM between Rama Devi Women’s University, Bhubaneswar, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee University, Bilaspur.

Sports council advisor, Dr. Sanjay Sinha said that For the first time, all matches, along with the opening and closing ceremonies, will be live-streamed on the official YouTube channel of the B.R.A. Bihar University Sports Council. This event promises to be a thrilling showcase of women’s basketball talent and a significant step towards promoting sports within the region.
A comprehensive review of the venue’s readiness was undertaken by the organizing committee, including key members sports council mentor and former IAS, Dr. Sanjay Sinha, LS College Principal, Prof. Om Prakash Roy, Proctor, Prof. BS Rai, Registrar, LNMCBM, Dr. Shartendu Shekhar, Prof. Kalyan Kumar Jha, Dr. Navin Kumar, Mahendra Prasad, and others. This inspection aimed to ensure all logistical arrangements, including court conditions, player facilities, and spectator areas, are in place for the successful hosting of the prestigious basketball tournament.
