The Assam government has introduced a new dress code for teachers in higher educational institutes. The dress code prohibits teachers from wearing casual clothes such as T-shirts, jeans, and leggings while on duty. Male teachers are required to wear formal shirts and trousers or dhoti-payjama, while female teachers are expected to wear "decent" salwar suits, sarees, or mekhela-chador.
