Appointment of 5 lawyers as Bombay High Court judges cleared by the Centre

The appointment of five advocates as additional judges of the Bombay High Court for two years has been finally given a clearance by the Central government on Wednesday.

Arjun Ram Meghwal, who holds the position of Union Minister of State for Law has confirmed to the news stating that the appointments are conirmed .

The notification of the same has been posted and uploaded on the official Twitter handle of the Law Ministry website.

The five advocates are:

  • Ashwin Damodar Bhobe;
  • Prafulla Surendrakumar Khubalkar
  • Nivedita Prakash Mehta
  • Advait Mahendra Sethna and
  • Rohit Wasudeo Joshi

As per the information, recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium on September 24 were the key reasons for the appointments made.

The Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court had made the recommendation for the elevation of these five lawyers on January 19, 2024.

As of today, the strength of Bombay High Court is 64 judges against a sanctioned strength of 94.
