Application process for the National Award to Teachers (Higher Education) 2024 begins

On 21st May, the Ministry of Education (MoE) initiated the application process for the National Award to Teachers (Higher Education) 2024. Eligible candidates can complete and submit the application forms according to the provided instructions. According to the notification, the award applies to all faculty members from colleges, universities, higher educational institutions, and polytechnics nationwide. Winners receive a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a medal, and a certificate. In addition to self-nomination, the other specific criteria for nominations are given below.

The award is open to all faculty members of colleges, universities, higher educational institutions, and polytechnics in India who meet the following criteria:

  1. The nominee must be a regular faculty member.
  2. They should have at least five years of full-time teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  3. They must NOT be over 55 years of age as of the last date for receiving applications for the awards.
  4. Vice-Chancellors, Directors, and Principals (whether regular or officiating) are not eligible to apply.

However, individuals who have previously held such positions but are still under 55 years of age and in active service are eligible.

The selection procedure for National Award to Teachers (Higher Education) 2024 will consist of two steps:

  1. A Preliminary Search and Screening Committee for the initial shortlisting of candidates.
  2. A Jury Committee for the final selection of awardees from the shortlisted candidates.

The deadline to submit nominations for the awards is June 20, 2024. Every year, a total of 35 awards are given. 25 awards in Category I (Teachers of Higher Educational Institutions) and 10 awards in Category II (Teachers of Polytechnic Institutions) are conferred. The selected awardees will be felicitated on September 5, Teachers’ Day, in commemoration of the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India and a notable teacher.
