The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Educational Research and Training has developed the State Curriculum Framework 2011 and Position Papers in tune with the National Curriculum Framework 2005 and the Right to Education Act 2009. Accordingly a new set of AP 5th Class textbooks has been designed and introduced.

In the AP 5th Class english textbook, the lessons begin with a Pre-Reading to keep the children active and lively, followed by Reading, Vocabulary, Grammar, Writing and Poem. The listening, speaking, reading and writing are evenly focused along with the Language games for joyful learning and reinforcement. QR codes are incorporated in the beginning of each lesson to enable learning outside the classroom.

In the AP 5th Class Maths textbook, concepts are introduced through activities related to daily life incidents, situations, contexts and conversations.

To strengthen these concepts, whole class activity, group activity and individual activities are designed. The lessons incorporated are also suitable for multigrade teaching.

For additional information on the concepts, QR codes are incorporated in each chapter to enable learning outside the classroom. Care has been taken to ensure that the new textbook is calibrated with the learning requirement of the 21st century.

In the AP 5th Class EVS textbook, eleven lessons have been incorporated on various themes like Family, Plants and Animals around us, Our body, Food, Water, Shelter, Travel, Relations, Games and Recreations etc. In order to reinforce the concepts, several projects and activities are given to inculcate scientific temperament.

Questions are framed for each lesson to recapitulate the conceptual understanding and to achieve competencies required for project work, drawings and model makings. Each lesson is provided with eye catching illustrations to engage the children.

The key concepts of the lessons are included under key words and the salient features of the lessons are given under the title “What we have learnt” for the review of the important concepts.

An effort has been made to relate the scientific concepts with the real-life events thereby developing and promoting scientific temperament.

The Class 3, 4, 5 English series comprises textbooks, workbooks and teacher handbooks. They match to the cognitive levels and socio-cultural background of children.

They are sensitizing the perspectives of gender and societal equity and maintaining harmony between mankind and nature.

They are reflecting the local arts, customs, culture traditions and acts and providing opportunities for children to talk and express about them.

Containing good narratives, description and various genres like poems/ stories, conversations, interviews, letter, essays, dramas, bio-graphies, auto biographies, role-plays which give the richest kind of linguistic input to the learners.

Create interest to read extensively among children. Contains attractive and thought providing pictures and illustrations appropriate to the lesson and the activities.

There is sufficient space to promote individual, group and whole class activities. Self-learning has given priority in different language tasks (Word grid, language games, puzzles etc.).

Suitable for continuous comprehensive evaluation and help learners to achieve the class specific learning outcomes.

Adequate subject matter, a good glossary, theme vocabulary, gradation of grammatical awareness, writing activities scope for listening and responding and listening inputs are provided.

The textbook is accompanied by a handbook is a boon to the teachers. Workbooks are helpful to the students for doing the follow up work. Selection of Themes: Themes are selected with much care concentrating on all cognitive levels and background of children upholding and encouraging all the secular and economical values enrichment in the constitutions equity and harmony have taken a major role (General and societal) Eco-friendly themes, local, national and international folktales and their literatures have given importance regarding.

Suggested themes by NFC-2005, RTE-2009 and NEP-2019 are prioritized. 1) Values like truthfulness, loyalty, empathy, generosity, love and affection.

2) Human relationships like self, family, society, friendship, occupations, harmony with nature. 3) Wisdom-judgment, humour, travelogues.

4) Food habits, good habits, health-hygiene, self-awareness and social-awareness. 5) Inspirational stories, epics and personality development, sports and achievements, social issues like inclusive education, gender awareness, women empowerment, communal harmony, people of differently-abled are included.

Each theme deals with some values that every person in our country should acquire. Life skills and values have given importance in every lesson. Based on the topics given and personalized and influential questions are also included in the activities which can bring behavioural changes among the students.
