Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has approved the upgrade of Besant Theosophical College to a university and rename it as Annie Besant University. The college was established in Madanapalle by Dr. Annie Besant during the British era in 1915 and is known for its historical significance as it was where the composer of India's national anthem, Rabindranath Tagore's wrote "Jana Gana Mana."
