Chennai : Shiv Nadar School, Chennai, recently concluded Anandam 2024, a celebration of creativity, self-expression, and the transformative power of the arts, at the Anna Centenary Library. This year’s theme, Truth Unmasked, challenged attendees to reflect on the complex interplay between truth and deception in today’s digital age. Students from Grades 3 to 7 took the centre stage, expressing their ideas and emotions through music, dance, theatre, and visual art. These creative endeavours illustrated how art fosters empathy, nurtures emotional intelligence, and develops critical cognitive skills.
“Our theme this year pushed us to think deeply about the world we live in. Through their art and performances, our students reminded us of the importance of authenticity, empathy, and the collective responsibility we hold in promoting truth,” shared Mrs Padmini Sambasivam, Principal, Shiv Nadar School, Chennai.
The event also featured an impressive visual art exhibition, where the creativity and dedication of the students and teachers were on full display. From intricate paintings to evocative installations, every piece reflected the passion and commitment poured into its creation. Theatrical productions were also on display, which delved into the impact of fake news, misinformation, and the challenges of discerning truth in a world where fact and fiction are often blurred.
- Pandemonium in Pipal Nagar: The play adapted from Ruskin Bond’s The Boy Who Broke the Bank humorously portrayed the chaos that ensues when rumours spiral out of control, emphasising the power of words to affect communities.
- Scandal in Fairyland: This piece, inspired by Badal Sircar’s 1975 play, tackled the pervasive spread of misinformation and its impact on society. It questioned the role of media in shaping public perception and urged audiences to evaluate the narratives they encounter critically.
Anandam 2024 was more than a celebration of the arts; it was a call to action. Parents, grandparents, invitees and dignitaries were captivated by the thought-provoking productions.
As Pablo Picasso once said, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” The event exemplified this sentiment, reminding everyone of art’s ability to spark imagination, inspire collaboration, and celebrate innovation.
