Anand Mahindra, the chairman of the Mahindra & Mahindra Group, has been appointed as the chairman of the Young India Skill University, according to an announcement made by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy during a meeting with Telangana NRIs in New Jersey.
The Chief Minister, who is currently on a tour of the United States to attract investment for Telangana, revealed that Mahindra’s appointment marks a step forward for the ambitious skill development initiative. “Reputed industrialist and Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra will be the chairman of the Skill University being established under a public-private partnership model,” Reddy stated.
The decision to appoint Mahindra follows a recent meeting between the Chief Minister and the industrialist, during which they discussed the university’s proposals. Mahindra reportedly agreed to take on the role enthusiastically. The Chief Minister confirmed that Mahindra would officially assume the chairmanship within the next few days.
The Young India Skill University, set to rise in Mucherla, Ranga Reddy district, is designed to enhance skill development among the youth of Telangana. It will offer 17 specialised courses in fields such as pharmaceuticals, construction, banking, financial services, e-commerce, logistics, retail, animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics.
The university aims to train 20,000 students annually, with plans to expand this number in subsequent phases. The university will operate under the public-private partnership model, with its headquarters and primary campus located in Hyderabad.
During his address to the Indian diaspora in New Jersey, Chief Minister Reddy also extended an invitation for NRIs to invest in Telangana.
