Aligarh : Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Naima Khatoon, visited the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), Gurugram, as the Chief Guest to mark National Energy Conservation Day 2024. Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, former Vice Chancellor of AMU, attended as the Guest of Honour.
Welcoming the dignitaries, Prof. Mohammad Rihan, Director General of NISE, elaborated on the institute’s mandate and its collaborative efforts with AMU. He highlighted achievements such as training initiatives, research proposals, and the launch of a joint M.Tech. program on green energy and sustainable development. Prof. Rihan emphasised the growing demand for skilled professionals in green energy and lauded AMU’s multidisciplinary approach as a vital contributor to this sector.
Prof. Naima Khatoon appreciated AMU’s association with NISE, particularly the leadership of an AMU professor as NISE’s Director General. She highlighted AMU’s commitment to green energy, sustainability, and energy conservation, aligning with national priorities spearheaded by the Prime Minister. Highlighting AMU’s extensive solar energy infrastructure, she reiterated her support for strengthening the collaboration between AMU and NISE to benefit students, institutions, and national energy initiatives.
Prof. Gulrez commended NISE’s efforts in promoting green energy and sustainable development, drawing attention to India’s role in global environmental preservation efforts under United Nations initiatives. He stressed the importance of synergy between academic institutions, policymakers, and industry for a seamless green energy transition and praised the long-standing partnership between AMU and NISE.
The event also included the distribution of prizes by Prof. Naima Khatoon to winners of National Energy Conservation Day activities at NISE. The guests participated in the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative by planting saplings on the NISE campus and toured the institute’s facilities.
Dr. Vikrant Sharma conducted the program and extended a vote of thanks. Other notable attendees included Mrs. Adeeba Rihan, Dr. Chandan Banerjee, Dr. Jaiprakash, and Mr. Rahul Pachauri.
The visit highlighted the shared vision of AMU and NISE towards advancing green energy and sustainability for a better future.
