AMU Research Scholars Shine at Indian Philosophical Congress

Aligarh : Eight research scholars from the Department of Philosophy, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), participated in the Joint 98th–99th Session of the Indian Philosophical Congress (IPC) held at Annamalai University, Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, from December 18–21, 2024. The four-day event witnessed over 400 delegates, including renowned scholars, international participants like Canadian philosopher William Sweet, and students from across the globe, presenting more than 350 research papers.

Ms. Aliya’s paper, “Addressing Feminist Critiques: In Defence of Rorty’s Vision of Social Progress,” delved into Richard Rorty’s philosophical contributions to feminism, emphasizing the concept of the “ironist” and its relevance to feminist critiques.

Ms. Ashi Saud presented her work on “The Will and Rebirth: Ethical Parallels in Schopenhauerian and Buddhist Thought.” She highlighted the ethical similarities between Schopenhauer’s philosophy and Buddhist teachings on suffering and liberation, advocating for compassion and moral engagement.

Ms. Rubina Sultana explored “The Devotional Self: Rasa/Bhakti – The Art of the Emotion in Vedanta,” emphasizing the transformative role of emotions in Vedantic spirituality and the integration of knowledge and devotion for spiritual growth.

Mr. Muzamil Ali Lone’s paper, “Hasan Spiker’s Critique of Immanuel Kant: An Appraisal,” examined Spiker’s ‘metacritique’ of Kant’s critique of metaphysics, offering insights into Spiker’s defense of rationalist metaphysics.

Mr. Sajid Raza presented on “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Political Vision: Pathways to Social Justice and Equality in India,” focusing on Ambedkar’s contributions to the Indian Constitution and his enduring ideas on caste and human rights.

Mr. Mohd Tabish’s presentation, “Ambedkar’s Vision of an Inclusive Equitable Society: A Philosophical Appraisal,” analyzed Ambedkar’s framework of constitutional democracy as a tool for protecting individual rights and fostering societal harmony.

Mr. Meer Sarosh discussed “Care Ethics: An Ethics of Empathy,” advocating for a nuanced understanding of empathy’s role in ethical care practices.

Mr. Shadab Ali Khan’s paper, “The Interplay of Intellect and Love in the Philosophy of Allama Iqbal,” highlighted the harmonious blending of intellect and intuition (Ishq) as essential for understanding Ultimate Reality.

Dr. Aquil Ahmad, Chairperson of the Department of Philosophy, appreciated the scholars on their achievements and expressed hope that their participation would inspire other students to engage in similar academic endeavors in the future.
