ALIGARH : Dr. Aamir Riyaz, Department of Philosophy, Aligarh Muslim University presented a paper on “Commonalties between Buddhism and Islam” at an international conference organised by the Banaras Hindu University, Varansi on “Coping with the World: From Perspective of Buddhism and Pragmatism”.

Dr Riyaz emphasised that both the religions have geographical and time line differences, though there are certain philosophical as well as ethical aspects which are similar in both these faiths and philosophies.

He held that Buddha can also be considered a Prophet on the basis of various similarities of his belief and Islam, as has been opined by the prominent Urdu poet, Allama Iqbal in his poem on Buddha.
