The Allahabad High Court has sought response from the state government on a petition filed by law students of S.S. Khanna Degree College, Prayagraj for installation of sanitary pad vending machines at public places like Educational Institutions/Girls Hostels, Hospitals, Bus Stations, Malls, Shopping Complexes, Sports Complex, Police Station etc.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Pritinker Diwaker and Ashutosh Srivastava passed this order while hearing a PIL filed by Rapti Singh and 4 Others.

The Petitioners are students of B.A LL.B, 2nd Year 3rd Semester of S.S Khanna Degree College, Prayagraj. They have filed the petition praying for a direction from the Court for ensuring installation of Sanitary Pad Vending Machines in all public places, including Educational Institutions/Girls Hostels, Hospitals, Bus Stations, Malls, Shopping Complexes, Sports Complex, Police Station etc.

They have also prayed for a direction to the State Respondents to ensure timely maintenance and refilling of the Sanitary Pad Vending Machines.

The Petitioners have argued that they have visited several public places, as mentioned in the writ petition, and found that the facilities announced by the State Government have not been actually provided.

The Court observed that the matter requires consideration.

The Court granted two weeks time to the State Counsel seek instructions in the matter and file an affidavit.

The Court has fixed the next hearing of the petition on July 24, 2023.
