A clarion call for a complete overhaul of the assessment pattern in India’s school education system requires a major overhaul. Indian school Examination Board need to look at the positive aspects of the education systems in the world and integrate them into their indigenous systems. Is our assessment testing the skill, life skills….? The country has more than 1.5 million schools with over 260 million students enrolled. Currently, India’s higher education system is the largest in the world. In the years to come, India will witness a boom in the student population. Researchers have predicted that by the year 2025, India will lead in terms of student count with the largest 18–22-year-old population making a round-off count of 119 million.

Reforming the examination practices is the need of the hour. Planning efficient assessment techniques that serve the rapid increase of student count in India is becoming a matter of concern, for which the development of technology in the education system is not a choice but a mandatory requisite.

The suggestions by several quarters, especially academicians, for the country’s education system to no longer look at the examination system, but instead, explore the talents and ability of students to be self-reliant should be given sincere consideration.

Students’ assessment should be in various aspects towards higher order thinking that encompasses physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and socialization.

These elements of creative, scientific, and higher-order thinking need to be sowed in children as early as possible, if possible, at the preschool level through more interesting methods, including games.

A good and quality assessment may be implemented in other forms. The Examination Board needs to be more open in exploring this matter. A new mindset is very much needed, in line with the changes that are happening today because we have been too long in the traditional examination aspect. We must move to a better, newer form of assessment that is more appropriate with time and the future. Through the current examination system, it is possible for a student to get A, B, or C grades, but how far does a student know about the subject that is taught, his/her ability to master or practice it? There are students who can memorize and obtain A in a particular subject, but whether the student is able to give arguments or think outside of what he/she memorizes is questionable. Policymakers, educationists, and other stakeholders in the educational field should consider revamping the system. Rote method of learning should not be the basis to test students’ skills and knowledge.

The present-day formal education should make students acquire new life skills and enable them to innovate and think out of the box to face a globalized and competitive world.

Therefore, how are we to build an innovative, creative group of students if they still practice the existing examinThe present-day formal education should make students acquire new life skills and enable them to innovate and think out of the box to face a globalized and competitive world. ation system? This evaluation system must be raised to a new form if we want to produce a creative and innovative generation.

The pandemic has given a lesson that we can no longer depend on examinations alone. If inculcated at an early stage, learning becomes interesting and fun, it will not be rigid and old-fashioned.

Much like how learning is a lifelong process, assessment is a continuous process. It can help you determine the effectiveness of our teaching methods. Using different forms of assessment, we can even monitor students’ progress. Seeing that we value their growth more than their scores, your students might slowly get rid of their anxiety. Thus, our assessments can leave a more meaningful impact and positive change.

In conclusion, an assessment is a complex yet fundamental part of education. To promote growth and learning, we should invest our time and effort into understanding this process.
