Category C tournament of 14th KIIT International Chess Festival begins today. 574 players from 5 countries – India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Srilanka and Syria have participated in this tournament which is a national record.
260 players from Odisha are participating in this tournament. Sri Mukesh Muthukumar of Tamilnadu having ELO 1593 is the top seed of this tournament.
This tournament was inaugurated by Dr. Rina Poonia, Director Sports, Manipal University, Jaipur (Rajasthan); Dr. Binu George Varghese, Director, School of Physical Education, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam (Kerala) in presence of Dr.Gaganendu Dash, Director General Sports, KIIT & KISS, Sri Ranjan Mohanty, Joint Secretary, AICF, EC members of AOCA Sri Suryakanta Bisoi, Sri Pradeep Mohanty, Sri Nihar Ranjan Sasmal, IA Sri Bhabesh Mohanty were also present.
All the players, parents & officials from AICF & AOCA officials thanked Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder KIIT & KISS and MP Kandhamal for providing excellent facilities (Accommodation, Food & Field of Play) for the said chess festival. Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS conveyed his best wishes to all the participants of Category C.
