Rohit Sharma has scored 4301 runs in 67 Test matches at an average of 40.57. These include 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries. Meanwhile, 38-year-old Rohit will continue to represent India in one-day international cricket matches.

2 CCEA approves amendment to the policy for allocation of coal to power sector – Scheme for Transparent Harvesting and Allocation of Coal in India – SHAKTI​

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved amendments to the policy for allocation of coal to the power sector , ‘Scheme for Transparent Harvesting and Allocation of Coal in IndiaShakti ‘. The CCEA said in its statement that this approval is for providing new coal linkages to thermal power plants of the central sector, state sector and independent power producers. The revised Shakti policy will plan the coal requirement of power plants based on their demand for long and short term.

3 Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma inaugurated the world’s first energy transmission park in Hyderabad​

In April 2025 , Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma inaugurated Babuji Vanam, the world’s first energy transmission garden at Kanha Shanti Vanam in Hyderabad, Telangana . The initiative has been developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture (MoC) and was launched as part of the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Pujya Babuji Maharaj, founder of the Sahaj Marg meditation system. The garden comprises 40 species of medicinal trees, including neem, red sandalwood, tulsi and tropical almond, selected for their spiritual and healing properties. Designed to radiate pranahuti (yogic transmission), the garden has acupressure pathways, percolation pits and sloping landscapes to facilitate rainwater harvesting and promote ecological sustainability.

4 FAO launches ‘AIM4NatuRe initiative’ to promote global ecosystem restoration monitoring​

In April 2025, the Rome, Italy -based Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) launched the ‘Accelerating Innovative Monitoring for Nature Restoration (AIM4NatuRe) Initiative ’ to enhance global monitoring of ecosystem restoration in forests, wetlands, grasslands, marine ecosystems, and degraded agricultural lands. This four-year (2025-28) initiative was launched with support from the United Kingdom (UK) of 7 million Great British Pounds (GBP) or approximately 9.38 million USD . Initial pilot projects will begin in Brazil and Peru in collaboration with FAO’s Indigenous Peoples Unit to integrate traditional knowledge and bio-centric practices. It builds on FAO’s AIM4Forests by using advanced tools such as the Framework for Ecosystem Restoration Monitoring (FERM) to enhance restoration monitoring and reporting efforts. The initiative directly supports Target 2 of the Kunming-Montreal global biodiversity framework to restore 30% of degraded ecosystems by 2030. Addresses data gaps highlighted by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) survey, where 80% of countries lack the technical skills to track restoration.

5 NAI releases book titled “Ramanujan: Journey of a Great Mathematician”​

In April 2025, the National Archives of India (NAI) in collaboration with New Delhi – based Vani Prakashan Group released a book titled “ Ramanujan: Journey of a Great Mathematician ” at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre , New Delhi . Authored by Arun Singhal and Devendra Kumar Sharma, the book highlights the life and contributions of Srinivasa Ramanujan, one of India’s most renowned mathematicians. The publication presents a detailed account of Ramanujan’s journey from his early life in Erode, Tamil Nadu (Tamil Nadu) to his groundbreaking work in mathematics.

6 Release of memoir titled ‘The Undying Light’ written by Gopalkrishna Gandhi​

In April 2025 , renowned author and former Governor of West Bengal (WB), Gopalkrishna Gandhi released his memoir titled “ The Undying Light: A Personal History of Independent India ”. The book was published by New Delhi (Delhi)-based Aleph Book Company , spans 624 pages and is available in English in hardcover format. The memoir begins with a deeply personal recollection of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination, which the author witnessed when he was just three years old. From this intimate moment, the narrative expands into an insightful study of the political history of post-1947 India, blending personal anecdotes with major historical events.

7 Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated ‘Corporate Bhavan’ in Kolkata​

In May 2025, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the ‘Corporate Bhawan’ of the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) in New Town, Kolkata, West Bengal (WB). This seven-floor facility aims to consolidate various offices of MCA under one roof, enhance operational efficiency and promote ease of doing business. The facility also includes the country’s first Pradhan Mantri Internship Scheme (PMIS) Facilitation Centre, set up in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on the seventh floor of the building. The centre aims to connect eligible youth (aged 21-24 years) with internship opportunities, provide guidance and support in the application process.

8 Union Minister Amit Shah unveiled the statue and renamed the road in honor of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma​

In May 2025, Union Minister Amit Shah , Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Ministry of Cooperation (MoC) unveiled the statue and renamed the road and rotary to pay tribute to Bodopha Upendranath Brahma on his 35th death anniversary in New Delhi (Delhi) . The ceremony was organized by the Government of Assam . Assam Chief Minister (CM), Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and other dignitaries were present on the occasion. To pay tribute, a 9 feet life-size statue was unveiled and the road named Lala Lajpat Rai in South Delhi was renamed as Bodopha Upendranath Brahma Marg, which is 835 m-50 feet wide near Kailash Colony Metro Station, which passes alongside the Bodoland Guest House. The statue of Bodopha (father or patron of the Bodo people) is a symbol of self-respect of the tribal society across the country.

9 Kozhikode in Kerala gets WHO recognition as age-friendly city​

In May 2025, the city of Kozhikode in Kerala has officially become a member of the World Health Organization ‘s (WHO) Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities (GNAFCC) . With such recognition, Kozhikode has joined a group of cities that formulate policies , provide services and develop infrastructure aimed at supporting older people : helping them stay healthy, active and creative in old age. Now, Kozhikode has become the second Indian city after Kochi (Kerala) (2024) and the second city in the WHO South-East Asia Region (SEAR) after Wellawaya in Sri Lanka to join the WHO GNAFCC. This is Kozhikode’s second international honour after the 2023 recognition by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a UNESCO City of Literature, reinforcing its commitment to progressive urban planning.

In April 2025, Professor Sunny Thomas , former national rifle shooting coach of India and Dronacharya awardee, passed away at the age of 83 in Uzhavoor in Kottayam district of Kerala . He was born in 1941 in Kottayam, Kerala. In 2001 , Professor Sunny Thomas became the first shooting coach to be awarded the Dronacharya Award, India’s prestigious honour for excellence in sports coaching.

12 Former Union Minister Girija Vyas passes away​

In May 2025, Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Dr. Girija Vyas passed away in Ahmedabad (Gujarat) at the age of 79. He was born in 1946 in Nathdwara in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan . Dr. Girija Vyas started his political career in 1977 as the President of Udaipur District Congress Committee . He served as MP in Lok Sabha thrice in 1991, 1998 and 2009. He held key positions in both state and central governments: Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting under
P.V. Narasimha Rao government (1993-1996). Union Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation under Manmohan Singh government (2013-2014).
