Research from IIT Delhi has revealed that mobile apps ‘ ” precise location ” permissions can expose users’ personal information . It can even detect whether a user is on a metro or an airplane, whether they are alone or in a crowded area . Researchers at IIT Delhi have developed a system called AndroCon . This system demonstrates that apps with precise location permissions on Android phones can use the precise GPS data already available as a covert sensor. According to the researchers, without using cameras, microphones, or motion sensors, this system can analyze nine types of low-level GPS parameters (such as Doppler shift, signal power, multipath interference, etc.) to determine whether a person is sitting, standing, or lying down. Furthermore, it can also detect whether a person is in a metro, an airplane, a park, or a crowded area, whether they are alone in a room or in a crowded area. The research, conducted by Soham Nag, an MTech student at IIT Delhi’s Centre of Excellence in Cyber Systems and Information Assurance, and Dr. Smriti R. Sarangi, a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, shows that these invisible GPS signals are capable of predicting a person’s movements, their surrounding environment, and even the layout of a room or building.

cu-20251031091425.jpg

World Thrift Day or World Savings Day is celebrated every year on October 31st across the world . Its purpose is to raise awareness about the importance of saving, encouraging people to prioritize saving for their future needs. Following the death of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31st, 1984 , the day is celebrated in India on October 30th . World Savings Day was first celebrated on October 31st, 1924, in Milan, Italy, by the World Society of Savings Banks . The idea behind this day is attributed to Italian professor Filippo Ravizza , who coined the term International Savings Day. Ravizza’s intention behind celebrating this day is to raise awareness among families and individuals about saving for their future, their children, medical emergencies, and other situations. While World Savings Day was started in 1924, it gained popularity after World War II, when the war created a crisis in livelihoods. Then almost all the big countries across the world rapidly spread this day to popularize savings among their people.
