ALIGARH : The Constitution Day celebrations continued at the Aligarh Muslim University with more departments of studies organizing events to raise awareness about the constitutional obligations that people have to fulfil as responsible citizens.
The Department of Wildlife Sciences organized a pledge taking ceremony for the faculty members and students to express faith in the great principles of liberty, equality and justice enshrined in the Constitution of India.
The occasion also marked the commemoration of the heroic deeds of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, one of the great tribal leaders who sacrificed their lives for rising against the British might during the freedom struggle.
Dr. Kaleem Ahmed, Assistant Nodal Officer, Celebratory Programmes of the University, emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of tribal leaders in shaping India’s history. He stressed that Munda’s fight for the rights and dignity of marginalized communities continues to hold immense relevance today to build an inclusive society that respects diversity, ensures justice, and uplifts the voices of the underrepresented.
Dr. Sharad Kumar spoke on the role of tribal people in the conservation of natural resources, bringing attention to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
Prof. Satish Kumar, Chairperson of the department, elaborated on the legacy of Birsa Munda as a legendary tribal leader and freedom fighter who played a pivotal role in resisting British colonial rule. He emphasized that Birsa Munda remains a timeless symbol of India’s tribal heritage and the fight for justice and equality, inspiring future generations to confront injustice with courage and determination.
The Department of Education celebrated the Constitution Day with a talk presented by Prof Mohd Mohibul Haque, Department of Political Science who emphasized the values enshrined in the Constitution and their role in shaping India as a democratic, secular and inclusive nation.
Prof. Haque provided an in-depth analysis of the making of the Indian Constitution and its guiding principles. He also stressed the importance of fundamental rights and fundamental duties of the citizens for peaceful existence and reiterated the importance of engaging in discussions on constitutional values to foster civic awareness and strengthen democratic practices.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Prof Mujibul Hasan Siddiqui, Chairperson, Department of Education, highlighted the importance of commemorating the Constitution Day and urged all to uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution.
