World AIDS Day is being observed every year on 01 December since 1988. It serves as a global platform to unite people to raise awareness about HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)/AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) and demonstrate solidarity against the epidemic. It is an important opportunity for governments, organizations and communities to highlight the current challenges of the disease and the progress made in its prevention, treatment and care. The theme of World AIDS Day 2024 is ” Take the right path: My health, my right!” “, which emphasizes the importance of access to healthcare and empowering people to manage their own health.

2 Jay Shah begins his tenure as ICC chairman​

After making a significant contribution in taking Indian cricket to new heights, Jay Shah has started his tenure as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) from Sunday, December 1. He will replace Greg Barclay . Barclay was in this position since November 2020. Jay Shah was elected unopposed chairman of the ICC in August this year. Jay Shah outlined his priorities in his first statement as ICC chairman, including the inclusion of cricket in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and further accelerating the development of women’s sports . Jay Shah has extensive experience in cricket administration. He was the chairman of the Gujarat Cricket Association in 2009 . During his tenure, he oversaw the development of the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad. In 2019, Shah joined the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and became the youngest secretary of the BCCI. Jay Shah is the fifth Indian to reach the top post of the ICC. Jagmohan Dalmiya was the first Indian to be the President of the ICC from 1997 to 2000. After this, senior politician Sharad Pawar served as ICC President from 2010 to 2012. Then industrialist and Chennai Super Kings co-owner N Srinivasan played the role of ICC Chairman between 2014 and 2015. After this, Shashank Manohar served as ICC Chairman from 2015 to 2020.

3 Gujarat launches Cottage and Village Industries Policy 2024-29​

The Gujarat government has launched the ambitious Cottage and Village Industries Policy 2024-29 to empower cottage and village industries , preserve handicrafts, and increase their presence in the domestic and global market . The policy focuses on promoting local products through initiatives such as increasing credit support, infrastructure development, and ODOP (One District One Product) scheme and GI tagging. To encourage new industries and businesses, the state government has increased the maximum loan amount under the scheme from the existing Rs 8 lakh to Rs 25 lakh, the release said. The maximum loan amount for handloom and handicraft artisans under the ‘ Dattopant Thengadi Artisan Interest Subsidy Scheme ‘ has been increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 3 lakh. About 60,000 micro-entrepreneurs will be trained to enhance their skills in the next five years, the release said.

5 PM Modi will inaugurate Rising Rajasthan Global Summit in Jaipur on December 9​

On December 9, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Rising Rajasthan Global Summit at the Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre (JECC) in Sitapura . The three-day event, scheduled from December 9-11, is an important milestone for Rajasthan as the state aims to boost its industrial development and attract investments. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma stressed that the event will play a key role in accelerating Rajasthan’s economic progress under Modi’s leadership.

6 Cyclone Fenjal hits Tamil Nadu coast​

Cyclone Fenjal, which rose over the Bay of Bengal , hit the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Saturday night . Three people died due to heavy rains and strong winds. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cyclone Fenjal has crossed the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The name ‘Fenjal’ was suggested by Saudi Arabia .

7 Border Security Force Establishment Day​

The Border Security Force (BSF) is celebrating its 60th Foundation Day. It is worth noting that BSF Foundation Day is celebrated on December 1 because the military unit responsible for guarding India’s land border during peace time and combating international crime was established on this day in 1965. India’s vast borders extend over more than 15,000 kilometers. The BSF shouldered the huge responsibility of protecting these borders.

8 Nagaland is celebrating its 62nd Statehood Day​

Nagaland celebrated its 62nd Statehood Day on 1 December . It was on this day in 1963 that it officially became the 16th state of India. Many programs are being organized to commemorate this important achievement in the history of Nagaland. In the year 1961, a law called Nagaland Transitional Provision Regulation was implemented in this region. According to this law, a group of 45 people used to elect and administer the tribes following their own ways and traditions. The state of Nagaland came into existence after the Parliament passed the Nagaland State Act in the year 1962. The provisional government in Nagaland was dissolved on 30 November 1963, Nagaland officially got the status of a state on 1 December 1963 and Kohima was declared the capital of this state. Nagaland is bordered by Myanmar in the east, Arunachal Pradesh in the north , Assam in the west and Manipur in the south. There are a total of 16 administrative districts in Nagaland, inhabited by 17 major tribes along with other sub-tribes. Each tribe differs significantly from the other in terms of customs, language and dress.

9 India and Cambodia began first joint table top exercise SINBEX in Pune​

The first edition of the joint table top exercise Sinbex between the Indian Army and Cambodian Army commenced at Foreign Training Node, Pune . The exercise will be conducted from 1 to 8 December 2024. The Cambodian Army contingent will comprise of 20 soldiers and the Indian Army contingent will also comprise of 20 soldiers from an Infantry Brigade. Exercise Sinbex is a planning exercise aimed at conducting combat rehearsals of joint counter-terrorism (CT) operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter . The exercise will focus on discussions related to the establishment of a joint training task force for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance besides planning operations in a CT environment.

10 Day of Remembrance for all Victims of Chemical Warfare 2024​

The Day of Remembrance for All Victims of Chemical Warfare is observed every year on November 30. The day was established during the 20th session of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). The purpose of this remembrance day is to pay tribute to the victims and strengthen the international community’s commitment to the total elimination of chemical weapons. The day not only honors the victims but also reinforces the principles of peace, security and multilateral cooperation.
