Kanpur, 30 August, 2024 – The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) hosted a seminar on "The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013". The seminar, a collaborative effort between the Institute’s Legal Cell and Gender Cell, was led by Shri Prakalpa Sharma, Deputy Registrar (Legal), IITK and supported by Prof. Braj Bhushan, Deputy Director, IIT Kanpur; and Shri Vishwa Ranjan, Registrar of the Institute. Prof. Braj Bhushan and Shri Vishwa Ranjan officially inaugurated the seminar, stressing the crucial need to tackle sexual harassment issues on campus and reaffirming the Institute’s dedication to creating a safe and respectful environment for all employees and students. Shri Alok Bhasin, a distinguished Advocate and expert in Labour & Industrial Laws, delivered a keynote address, providing a thorough overview of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013, detailing its key provisions, the legal obligations of employers, and the processes for addressing and redressing grievances. His insightful and engaging talk offered valuable guidance on the effective implementation of the Act and the promotion of a secure working environment. The seminar also featured an interactive Q&A session where attendees posed questions and discussed specific concerns related to the Act, fostering an open dialogue on critical issues and further enriching the understanding of the PoSH Act’s practical application. The seminar concluded with a renewed focus on enhancing awareness and implementing effective measures, reflecting IIT Kanpur’s ongoing efforts to uphold a safe and supportive environment for all members of its community.
