Kolkata Court: In the Kolkata rape and murder case of a resident doctor this year, the Court granted bail to former Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh as CBI fails to file chargesheet within 90 days.
The Court also granted bail to police officer Abhijit Mondal, however, his co-accused, Sandip Ghosh, will remain in custody due to ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Sandip Ghosh, an accused in the alleged financial irregularities and mishandling of key evidence in a rape case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was arrested by the CBI on 02-09-2024 The arrest followed a significant order by the Calcutta High Court on 23-08-2024, directing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the matter.
The order followed a petition filed by Akhtar Ali, the former Deputy Superintendent at the hospital, who accused Sandip Ghosh of committing illegalities during his tenure. Sandip Ghosh challenged the High Court’s directive in the Supreme Court, but his appeal was dismissed on 06-09-2024.
