Justice Manmohan on Thursday took oath as a Judge of the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna administered the oath of office and secrecy to Justice Manmohan in courtroom no. 1, in the presence of all Apex Court judges.
The Supreme Court is now functioning with a strength of 33 judges, against its sanctioned strength of 34, with one vacancy.
On December 3, the Union of India had appointed Justice Manmohan, Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, as a judge of the Apex Court.
The information was shared by Union Minister of Law and Justice (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal on X (formerly Twitter).
As per the tweet, “In exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Manmohan, Chief Justice, High Court of Delhi as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India.”
On November 28, the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and comprising Justice BR Gavai, Justice Surya Kant, Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice Abhay S Oka, had recommended the elevation of Justice Manmohan.
Justice Manmohan became the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court in September 2024. Prior to this, he was serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court since September 2023.
Manmohan was born on December 17, 1962. He completed LL.B from Delhi’s Campus Law Centre in 1987. He enrolled as a lawyer with the Bar Council of Delhi in 1987 and practiced law before the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court.
He was designated Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court in January 2003.
Manmohan was appointed as Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on March 13, 2008, and made permanent on December 17, 2009.
