India’s RHUMI-1 Mission: India has successfully launched its first reusable hybrid rocket, ‘RHUMI-1,’ created by the Tamil Nadu-based startup Space Zone India in partnership with the Martin Group. Learn about this mission and its features here.

The RHUMI-1 rocket was launched from Thiruvidandhi in Chennai on August 24 at 7 AM. As India’s first reusable hybrid rocket, it represents a major advancement in the country’s space technology.

The rocket carried 3 CubeSats and 50 PicoSats and was launched into a suborbital trajectory using a mobile launcher. These satellites are tasked with collecting data for research on global warming and climate change.

RHUMI-1 employs a hybrid propulsion system that combines liquid oxidizers with solid or gelled fuels. Its design focuses on reusability, aiming to cut space access costs by allowing multiple flights with the same hardware. It is 100% pyrotechnic-free and contains 0% TNT.
