Gauhati High Court: The present PIL was filed with one of the specific prayer to issue orders and directions to respondents to improve hospital infrastructures in the District Hospitals of Peren, Kiphire, Longleng, and Noklak for storing blood. The Division Bench of Soumitra Saikia* and Kaushik Goswami, JJ., directed Respondents 1, 2, 3, and 4 to file a detailed affidavit in relation to the status of existence or the availability of Blood Banks and Blood Storage Units in all the 17 districts of the State of Nagaland.
Pursuant to the earlier order of the Court, an affidavit was filed by the Mission Director, NHM on behalf of Respondents 1, 2, 3 and 4 stating that steps were taken for setting up of Blood Bank equipments in four districts of Tuensang, Kiphire, Mon, and Phek. The Court noted that the work orders were issued to the vendor and the various machineries required for installation of the Blood Banks were in supply and were working as per the required standard.
The Court opined that the issue raised in the present case was of substantial importance to the citizens, particularly, those residing in rural areas and not having access to adequate and sufficient medical and health necessities by way of hospitals and other ancillary facilities offered in those hospitals including access to Blood Banks and Blood Storage Units, therefore, Respondents 1, 2, 3, and 4 were directed to file a detailed affidavit and place before the Court the status of existence or the availability of Blood Banks and Blood Storage Units in all the 17 districts of the State of Nagaland.
The matter would next be listed after four weeks from the date of the present order.
