The UILS Student Law Review (USLR) is inviting submissions for Volume II, Issue I of the Journal. It is a student-run, bi-annual journal of University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh. It has been conceptualized with the aim to foster constructive discussion on contemporary issues relating to the variegated fields of law by providing a platform to well-researched works exploring a novel aspect of law.

Submission Guidelines​


  1. The UILS Student Law Review accepts submissions from academicians, practitioners, legal professionals, research scholars and students on any contemporary legal issue in the following categories:

    1. Articles: An article must be descriptive in nature, providing a comprehensive analysis of the issue. It should be between 3,000 to 5,000 words.


    2. Case Comments: A case comment must contain a succinct analysis of a recent judicial pronouncement or a landmark case. It should be between 1,500 to 3,000 words.


    3. Legislative Comments: A legislative comment must seek to undertake a detailed scrutiny of a proposed Bill, an Act or legislation. It should be between 1,500 to 3,000 words.


    4. Book Reviews: A book review may be given on any book related to law. The word limit for the same is within 1,500 to 3,000 words.

  2. The aforementioned word limits are exclusive of footnotes. The word limit can be relaxed depending upon the quality of the submission. The Editorial Board has the sole discretion in this matter and its decision shall be final.


  3. Every submission must contain an abstract of not more than 250 words encapsulating the central idea of the paper. Manuscripts not containing an abstract shall be summarily rejected. The manuscript must also contain 5 keywords.


  4. Co-authorship of not more than two authors is permitted.


  5. The USLR follows a one-author, one-submission policy. The latest submission made by the author(s) shall be considered for publication while previous submissions shall not be considered, subject to any indication to the contrary expressed by the author(s).


  6. All submissions made to the Review should be original. Submissions exceeding 15% plagiarism limit shall be summarily rejected.


  7. The Review follows an exclusive-submission policy, wherein the submission must not be published or submitted for publication in other journal, law review or blog. As a condition of publication, the authors grant the Journal an irrevocable, transferable, non- exclusive, royalty-free license to reproduce, publish and distribute their submission(s) in all media including but not limited to print and any electronic services. The license is granted for the duration of the subsistence of the copyright including any extensions and/or renewals.


  8. The manuscript must not contain any information relating to the identity of the author(s).


  9. Authors are mandatorily required to fill and submit the bona-fide certificate/copyright form annexed herewith. Failure to do so would result in rejection of the manuscript.


  10. Although articles shall be subject to a rigorous review process, the accuracy of quotations, titles, names, dates, charts, tables, footnotes, conclusion and recommendations etc. is solely the responsibility of the author(s).


  11. No fee shall be charged at any stage of the publication process.


  12. The manuscripts must be submitted through Google Forms only: . In case you are unable to make the submission through Google Forms, you may send your manuscript in Word format (.doc/.docx) along with the bona-fide certificate at uilsstudentlawreview@gmail.com


  13. The last date for submission of manuscripts is February 15, 2025.

Formatting & Citation Guidelines​


  1. The USLR follows ‘The Indian Law Institute (ILI)’ citation system. The use of speaking footnotes and endnotes is highly discouraged.


  2. The body of the manuscript must be in Font: Times New Roman, Size: 12 and Spacing: 1.5 spacing


  3. The footnotes must be in Font: Times New Roman, Size: 10 and Spacing: single spacing

Review Process​


The manuscripts will undergo a rigorous review process which usually takes 8-12 weeks. (tentatively). The manuscripts will firstly be subjected to an initial screening by the Student Editorial Board which would be followed by a substantive review by the peer-review board. After the review process is complete, the Editorial Board may suggest changes to the authors to make their submission compatible with the publishing standards of the Journal. The decision with regard to selection of manuscripts by the Editorial Board would be final.

I/we certify that my manuscript is an original piece of work and free from copyright violation of any kind. I/we also certify that if selected for publication, all rights with respect to the manuscript shall be vested in the Editorial Board of the USLR. I/we declare that the manuscript so submitted is not pending review with any other journal/blog/forum. I/we also declare that in case of any non-compliance with the submission guidelines of the USLR or indulgence in unwanted practices (such as plagiarized content), I/we shall bear the sole responsibility and the Editorial Board shall not be liable.
